The time has finally come for the big dogs to come out to play, and leading things off is Microsoft. It’s safe to say they did NOT disappoint, Here’s how the show broke down.
Halo 5: Guardians
In a move that shocked no one, Microsoft opened up their E3 show with a great look at Halo 5: Guardians. As someone who has never really been THAT into the Halo franchise (I know… I know..) I was absolutely blown away by the gameplay they had to show. The game looks beautiful, the action is fast and frantic, and it’s ramped up to an epic scale not seen before in the Halo franchise. To top it all off, 343 studios announced a brand new game mode for Halo 5, Warzone, a massive 24 player multiplayer mode that looks like an awesome fusion between Halo and Battlefield, complete with all the chaos of vehicles and mayhem. Halo 5: Guardians drops on Xbox One October 27th of this year.
Next up is a brand new IP and Xbox exclusive called ReCore, while not much is known, we were treated to a short trailer depicting a female in a barren desert type area, with a small robotic pet that looked and acted like a dog with a bright blue orb at its center. It usually goes, a bunch of enemies show up with red orbs, and the tiny dogbot sacrifices itself to save you, only to have his core placed into the center of a giant robot found scrapped off to the side. The game looks pretty neat, but it’s going to be a bit before we really know much more about this new Xbox IP.
Xbox One Backward Compatibility
A pretty massive and surprise announcement, Xbox head guy Phil Spencer took to the stage to deliver the awesome news! Starting out for preview members right now, 100 games will be ready to go, just download and install and you are set to go. The full launch will be later this year, with many more games to be added as time passes. The really awesome part about all of this is these classic Xbox 360 games can now be played with all of the new Xbox One features such as screenshots, game recording on the DVR and live streaming. This one is sure to be a fan favourite.
Xbox Elite Wireless Controller
Another surprise announcement, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller looks to be the controller of the future; with total customization, swappable components, button mapping, trigger locks and more. The cost is looking a bit steep, but if you are really looking for the edge in your favourite game, this new controller looks to be pretty awesome.
Todd Howard from Bethesda game studio’s took to the stage to talk a bit about Fallout 4. Much of this was a rehash of what was shown off at Bethesda’s own E3 conference, but he did mention a pretty cool tidbit about modding, as Xbox One users will be able to download many of the cool mods the PC gaming community has been loving for years!
Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2
Peter Moore of EA, after announcing some cool stuff for EA Access, dropped that the next iteration of the popular PVZ game is on its way for a 2016 launch. Game looks like a lot of fun, so fans of the original should keep an eye on this title.
What’s a great way to promote your franchise racing title? Drop a Supercar from the roof and bring out a direct descendant of Henry Ford! Unveiling the stunning new Ford GT exclusive to Forza 6, a short trailer was shown off that looks absolutely beautiful. Features include, a complex real weather system, full day/night cycles, and the hottest cars on the planet. Forza Motorsport 6 looks to remain the champion of racing simulators.
Dark Souls 3
If you are a glutton for punishment, then you are probably already a fan of the Dark Souls series. Well rejoice, because the third installment has been announced!. Not much was shown off, no gameplay or release date, but the game has that signature horror vibe to it, and will most certainly come with many of player deaths and broken controllers.
Tom Clancy’s The Division
One of the more hyped up games over the last few E3’s, The Division, made its presence felt in a big way. First showing off a beautiful story based trailer, it was then announced that Xbox players will be the first to get their hands on The Division, by way of a beta starting this December.
Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
Continuing the Clancy fun, it was announced that the upcoming first person shooter will come with free copies of Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2, thanks to the newly announced backwards compatibility. An intense gameplay trailer was shown, with two teams of 5 going head to head in some crazy tactical FPS action. Rainbow Six Vegas was one of my favourite games, so be sure to keep this one on your radar when it launches later this year, October 15th to be exact!
This is a brand new Free To Play game that fuses Xbox and Windows 10, and has a very cool art style. Gameplay looks like a mix between a MOBA and Team Fortress, with awesome guardians you can summon to help you battle. Not much more is known about this new IP, but expect that to change very soon.
Rise Of The Tomb Raider
The world’s first gameplay demo did not disappoint!, The game looks and runs perfectly, and has all the trademark action and adventure you would expect from a Tomb Raider game. This one is high on my personal list of holiday 2015.
30 games for $30?!?, How can you NOT be excited!? Some of the best games from Rare’s legendary collection come to the Xbox One, such as Perfect Dark, Blast Corps, Battletoads and so many more. This might just be the best deal you will find outside of the PC humble Bundles.
Sea Of Thieves
Yet another new IP and Xbox exclusive, Sea Of Thieves is an impossibly beautiful looking open world pirate game, where you and your friends can team up and explore a vast open world, pilot your own pirate ship and engage in wicked battles against other pirate clans on your quest for treasure, the demo shown really needs to be seen to be believed.
This radical new AR device still seems too unreal to believe, but yet here it was shown off on the E3 stage working in ways I never thought possible. Showing off Minecraft using Hololens, and a special camera tuned to show the audience what the Hololens user was seeing, the user was able to play Minecraft in total AR, while another user played the classic way. This tech was truly mind blowing, and if this ends up being even HALF of what the final product can do, count me in.
Gears Of War 4
A great surprise announcement to end a stellar show, a beautiful gameplay demo was shown off that reveals the Gears franchise is right at home on the Xbox One. Featuring a new set of characters, its unclear where this game will take place in the Gears Of War franchise, but either way fans of the series are going to be very excited when this game finally drops in 2016.
And that’s about it! What did you think of Microsoft’s E3 show? What was your favourite game or announcement or maybe something you had hoped to see and didn’t? Let us know in the comments, on Facebook and Twitter!
